Hi Vicky, to kick off, just outline your career history to date.

I joined the pharma industry back in 1998 as a Medical Sales Representative. Up until the beginning of this September when I joined Star OUTiCO, I had worked for a number of companies in various roles covering both Primary and Secondary Care and selling in many disease areas, including Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Pain, Oncology and most recently Respiratory.

What strengths do you feel you bring to the Star OUTiCO recruitment team?

After being in the industry over 20 years, I hope I can help the team with various terminology, acronyms (pharma does love a good acronym), understanding of the market and extensive knowledge of the industry, alongside being cognisant of the challenges and the huge shift change that has happened in the industry in the last couple of years.

Why did you want to join Star OUTiCO’s recruitment team?

First and foremost, the Star OUTiCO recruitment has a really great reputation. The team is very solutions-focused and consists of resilient and professional individuals who are each personable, driven, and passionate about wanting to find the best outcome for both client company and candidate. These individual traits are underpinned by a strong team spirit to succeed – all these traits really resonate with me.

Give us your main piece of advice for candidates looking for a new job in the current environment.

My advice for candidates in this environment is to be resilient and to embrace the changes that are happening in pharma, to have a flexible mindset and to be even more open to agile working than ever, to evolve your way of working to be able to recreate that in person interaction remotely.

Don’t be scared by the omni-channel approach – this now allows you much greater scope to reach out to a broader range of customers in a much more time-efficient manner.

Don’t forget medical sales representatives’ attributes will always be important, and the digital platform can still allow you to build relationships with your customers and to hone your excellent communication and presentation skills, alongside your outgoing and persuasive manner.

Finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

The last couple of years (son in his last year at university), has afforded me a lot more ‘me’ time. I live just near the Mendips, so most weekends consist of long dog walks. I like to bake, binge watch Scandi noir box sets and get dragged more times than I care to, to watch Bristol Rovers (invariably lose). I’ve probably now alienated a whole host of people by admitting I go to watch the Gas!!

I also like to run and now autumn is here I shall dust off the treadmill in the garage, have a look at it and go back indoors to do some more baking!
